The winds whispered softly to Solum as she crossed the borders of the light and shadow of the astral worlds. A sense of stillness enveloped the wolf as she walked, not a hair of her white and gray mane out of place, as if the softly blowing winds of the meadows simply did not touch her graying fur. Eye the color of the first grasses of spring gazed out upon the spirits that lingered here, lived she had taken millennia before... and some much more recent.

Only an inch or so above the ground hovered a small, gnarled form. Whatever it had originally started in the womb was no longer recognizable. Soulm knew it had been born to a hybrid pair of Ignus' doing, but what the little one had been... that she did not. All she knew was that it had been in pain. Such horrible pain. The gray wolf had gazed upon it's form from the heavens and reached out, claiming it from pain and suffering shortly after birth.

Now as she walked upon earth that would not die under her step, she toted the small creature with her. She knew that Aura could heal it's form so that it could live out it's life under his just gaze, and join his herd. It was quiet as she tilted her maw back, the single noted cry seeming out of place in these lands, though not a single member of the flock their head.

The note broke through the winds, rebounding through the air until it touched Aura's ears. He looked up from the little one he was educating in the simple task of walking. Even healed, some of the creatures took some effort to learn even menial tasks. He was patient with them, knowing that harshness would not make their brains comprehend movement any faster. The great lion apologized to the little one, but brought over another who he knew would also be a good teacher. He promised to come back, as he always did for all of his herd, for they were his and he was theirs.

The call was unmistakable; Solum had come once more, perhaps bringing another hapless soul. One would think that he would grow tired of performing miracles for the bastards of Ignus, but he could not find it within his heart to turn any of them away. They had done nothing but existed, and Aura could not fault them for that. In the end, he could not even fault Ignus. The stallion had done it in mostly good-will, as that was their duty to the land. This was simply his part in the grand scheme of things, and it was one he accepted with honor and determination.

He approached, the wind just barely whispering through his hair. He could feel the stillness around Solum, but that is how she always was. Aura's glowing eyes turned upon the thing she had brought and his eyes filled with sadness and pity. He began to faintly glow as he neared the child. Aura brushed his cheek gently against it, and spoke as soft as the wind itself. "Be well, my child." The power of his words engulfed the lump of a hybrid. The transformation was quick, but not without its obscenitie; cracks of bones signifying limbs being put together, the sound of lungs being properly inflated, and finally the pulse of a fully functioning heart as it all came together, stumbling before him. A smile as warm as the noon sun flashed upon his face, and he placed his forehead against hers.

When it realized it had eyes it opened them, a shocking pink. Her body couldn't decide whether to have feathers or fur, and so both were mixed in. Colors ranged from ruddy reds to lavish greens, alternating almost randomly. Antlers darted off of its head oddly, but the face revealed that it was very much a bear hybrid. A few mushrooms grew on her joints, and one on the very tip of her nose. She was very exhausted from her torment, and knew only to crawl to him and pass out. Aura laid down with her, cradling her between his paws. "Thank you, Solum." His normally booming voice was quiet and calm. He wished to allow this one to nap, and there was no reason to not be thankful to the goddess of death and life. The bear hybrid would not know how to talk for some time, and so every time Solum brought him a pained soul, he made sure to tell her thank you, for both his herd and the little one.

Solum's expression softened as she gazed upon the strengthened form of the young hybrid. She had grown use to Aura's magic, and while it still brought joy to her heart to see the young one's healed, it had fallen more into a duty for the wolf. "Of course, Aura. Those brought from darkness must always be given the chance to see the light." she said softly, not wanting to wake the sleeping creature.

She sat back on her haunches, watching the pair quietly for a moment, not a breath seeming to move within her chest. It was some time before she spoke, having been watching the rising and falling chest of the babe as if it would suddenly stop due to her prescience alone. "The children of Murdren trouble me." she said finally, her eyes suddenly weary. Not even hundreds of years of sleep could erase the tired nature that true darkness had brought upon the goddess of death, or her friends. [b]"They have sworn themselves to Nex, and I fear their work could be the undoing of all of our children... even themselves."[b] she finally looked up and met Aura's shining eyes, her tone as serious as ever.

They sat in solitude for some time. The babe would likely be asleep for a while, as the trial of birth and then, ultimately, death was an arduous journey for one who had only just been created. It would be like being born again when she awoke, experiences and strangeness everywhere.

"The children of Murdren trouble me." Aura's soft composure hardened instantly, a frown upon his elegant face. "They have sworn themselves to Nex, and I fear their work could be the undoing of all of our children... even themselves." He nodded. There could be no mistake that anything associated with Nex could never be trusted. Nex was clever, even his own messengers were often hidden from his true purpose. It was one of the many things that made him a threat. "They are young yet. We can only hope that the others bond together." Voice was pitched low as if to dance around the babe's ears and not be heard. "I have one soul with Avaliel. There is much light with them. Another child has warned them of the Keran Lands." He could only hope that this would be enough for them to start preparing.
